The First Day Guide

Getting Ready For Your First Appointment

What you can expect during your first appointment with Summit Journey Therapy Services.

The Boring Stuff

01
Complete Intake Paperwork
Intake documents will be sent via secure link from Simple Practice. Please contact me if you're having trouble viewing documents or your link has expired.
02
Review Insurance & Billing Info
Be sure to review and understand how self-pay works and, if applicable, insurance reimbursement.
03
Be On the Look Out for a "Location Info" Email
If your appointment is scheduled in-person, I will send an email about office location. If your appointment is telehealth, you will receive a video link from Simple Practice. I recommend downloading the Simple Practice App for easy accessibility if you're using a phone or tablet.

What To Expect

The first appointment is a space to get oriented, ask questions, and begin understanding what’s bringing you in. We’ll talk through goals, relevant history, and next steps. There’s no expectation to share everything at once; the work unfolds at a pace that makes sense.
One
Come with a general idea of what you'd like to improve on. I have experience working with newbie-therapy clients and seasoned vets, so don't overthink it. We can collaborate together!
Two
During your first appointment, I will ask thoughtful, exploratory questions to help clarify concerns and guide us toward treatment goals together. Expect to leave feeling motivated, encouraged, and excited about the work ahead.
Three
We will use the treatment goals as a foundation to guide therapy and check-in on progress. And, we can always adjust our goals if needed.

Before Your Appointment

You don’t need a script, but it can be helpful to reflect on:
  • What led you to reach out?
  • What does meaningful progress look like to you?
  • What are your biggest reservations about change and/or therapy?
Come Curious!
This is a collaborative process. You’re not expected to have the “right” words or a clear plan. Curiosity and openness are enough to begin.
